The Essence of Gratitude

Gratitude is a word that has been used a lot lately from those who are offering the "spiritual" path to others and from those looking to manifest more in their lives. The standard line is something of the order of "You just need to be grateful for everything in your life". Now, while it is true that a shift in perspective from an ungrateful state of mind to a more grateful state of mind helps one to temporarily feel more at peace, it is also true that a concept offered without the root understanding of the concept is likely to be misunderstood, be misused and lead to eventual frustration.

Gratitude is NOT a practice, it is an understanding. As a practice it is forced, as an understanding it flows. Therefore it is always the deeper nature of self-discovery and self-inquiry that leads to a deeper and more expansive self-love that results in gratitude.

This is a love that comes from the understanding that right now You are the perfection of all your past perfect choices, thoughts and actions. That if you hadn't made all those past choices you wouldn't be on the path you're on now coming to the amazing understanding that you are leading yourself towards each and every day. You would be delaying your evolution rather than expanding and evolving, asking questions, receiving answers and transforming into more of a peaceful conscious creator of your life and true master of your reality.

True gratitude comes from the realization that every situation in every moment as much as it can seem against you, is always and forever FOR YOU. For example, in this moment, who else could these words be for? How you choose to respond, react and feel, based on what you desire to create and experience in this lifetime is your "free will". You are the infinite and priceless observer and creator of life, and everything you can see, feel, touch, smell and hear is here to SUPPORT you in your creative effort. If that's not something to be infinitely grateful for right now, then maybe as you contemplate this in the days or weeks to come it will be.

When you see all persons, places and things in your daily walk as the tangible matter that gives your life its meaning and growth, your judgments will disappear and your gratitude and love for all of it will know no boundaries. This is the gratitude that sees all as perfection, feels itself as part of the perfection and manifests from the unlimited and unrestricted nature of this perfection. From this state of grace the great mirror that is the Universe has no choice but to respond in kind....

With endless love & gratitude,
Howard

Are starvation and murder part of the "all" that is "perfect"?

Hi Rudi,

I will clarify this more in future posts, but here is a brief explanation.

By perfection I in no way mean desired outcome, but rather the perfect result of a collection of conditions that come together in each moment.

Best,
Howard Falco

Howard, I do understand all of this and realize I need to do it everyday to be successful. Could you please put into words How to get started. Somw people I know that have been diagnosed with things like ADHD and ADD can live normally without drugs by living this way. This is my belief. I am a recovering alcoholic/drug addict who uses these positive thoughts daily to make me at ease and make each day a little bit more fun to live. I just wanted to know if you offer a beginners opinion anywhere, because tryng to just jump into way of thinking for some is very hard. I started meditation with 5 min. increments because in no way would I be able to be in that state of mind for an hour, like I can now. I've taught people this practice of meditation and was just wondering how and where to begin livivng like this daily? Thank you and God Bless.....Jimi

jimisox,

The best way to come more naturally to this mindset is to constantly question any thoughts you have that run counter to the perfection that you are right now. By persistently questioning whether these thoughts of imperfection are real, you will eventually uncover that they are not real. The more you can see and believe in your perfection right now, the easier it will be to get into a peaceful, loving and grateful state of mind.

Sincerely,
Howard

Howard, If I may ask you another question? Is this usually an ego/pride problem we let get in the way? After reading this again I realize that throughout my day I get down on myself for little imperfections from time to time. I can see how to take the thought of "being wrong/a bad person" and letting it get to me. How can I not look at these as imperfections? are thay just learning experiences? I would love to read your book, and can't wait to get a copy. Thankk you again, God bless....Jimi

Jimi,

"How can I not look at these as imperfections?"

What you are looking at is always who you were. Who you choose to be in this moment is who you are. If you carry a past idea of imperfection into this moment you will seek to recreate the experience of it. Not to mention the fact that they are not imperfections at all, but simply the best you had at that particular moment.

The more you see the good in who you are in this moment and the opportunity that it is to express more love, the more you look to serve that idea through positive thoughts and actions, rather than see the imperfections or negative side and then always looking to serve that identity by "seeing yourself a being wrong/a bad person or getting down on yourself for little imperfections". This is the self-fulfilling nature of life.

This moment is always brand new. You have full authority over how you will create yourself within it. When you create from a place of total self-love and acceptance the possibilities are endless.

Best,
Howard

I agree, gratitude is a state of being.

Gratitude is a gateway to grace.

When we accept and are grateful for all we experience, including what we currently do not understand we are free. Through this freedom we expand into more to be grateful for.

We are grateful to experience more of the love we are.

Even in the most sexually liberated and self-satisfied of nations, many people still yearn to burn more, to feel ready for bedding no matter what the clock says and to desire their partner of 23 years as much as they did when their love was brand new.
The market is saturated with books on how to revive a flagging libido or spice up monotonous sex, and sex therapists say “lack of desire” is one of the most common complaints they hear from patients, particularly women.
